The concept of TYT is gaining traction, particularly among younger athletes, as it enables athletes to interact with fans in real time. TYT has a thriving community of fans who follow a series of athletes.
Twitch
While largely unknown to the mainstream, Bonnell has a huge following on Twitch. He regularly draws over 50,000 followers and ten thousand viewers on his best days. While his Twitch followers may be small, his rants have a huge reach. He has become a prominent voice in the gaming community.
The socially progressive nature of Bonnell’s Twitch channel allows him to engage in debates with conservative internet personalities and stake out mostly progressive positions. Although this is relatively rare in the gaming community, Bonnell’s work lays out a different path for progressives. His Twitch audience is also incredibly engaged in the political debates that he holds. Oftentimes, the right-wingers who engage in these debates use their platform to promote their own personal reputations, and this is exactly what Bonnell does.

Despite her leftist leanings, TYT is what Bonnell tweets is anything but conservative. The self-described provocateur has had an unusual amount of success on Twitch. He has become a prominent streamer, befriending right-leaning competitors and even debating controversial political streamers. His tweets are incredibly provocative and his Twitter account contains numerous links to other controversial and offensive content.
YouTube
Steven Bonnell II, also known by the online moniker Destiny, is a Twitch streamer and YouTuber. He has won over followers with his acerbic commentary on politics, religion, and philosophy. He has criticized both left and right-wing content creators on YouTube, and has also defended liberal causes in debating with JonTron, Lauren Southern, and other far-right personalities.
While the controversy over Lia Thomas continued to rage, Bonnell responded with a video critical of the idea of a transgender athlete in sports. This angered Keffals, who reported Bonnell on Twitch and gloated over taking away her main source of income. Some authors attribute his popularity to his crude expression and physical appearance.
Known for his liberal views, Hasan Piker is a vocal supporter of workplace democracy, renewable electrical energy, Muslim rights, and intersectional feminism. He also supports Medicare for all and is an active supporter of Bernie Sanders. Despite being a prominent player on Twitch, Piker has never discussed his sexuality publicly. However, he has occasionally tangled himself with fellow Twitch streamers, including Destiny. Hasan Piker has previously accused Destiny of using a racially charged slur to talk about him, “sex of color.” This slur is a racial slur in Spanish, and it has been used by both Destiny and HasanAbi in a feud.
Piker responded to the controversy on Twitch by reiterating his central points, and also acknowledged that he had used more precise language. Unlike Crenshaw, Piker also addressed comments made by Cenk Uygur, who questioned Piker’s stance and asked if Crenshaw had meant what he said. Ultimately, the suspension of Piker’s Twitch stream was a result of his lack of a public response.
