Facebook has since split these into two distinct folders – the Message Requests Inbox, which is populated with messages from known senders, and the Filtered Inbox, which contains messages from people you don’t know. Facebook’s secret inbox is a way for users to send encrypted messages to each other. The new feature works in a similar way to the spam inbox on e-mail: users can opt to receive only messages from people they know. They can also choose to block the person who started the secret conversation. Messages sent to the secret inbox won’t be displayed in the main conversation thread, and you have to explicitly start the conversation in order to receive an encrypted message.
To view messages sent to a secret inbox, login to your Facebook account and select Messages from the menu on the top right of your screen. Choose Message Requests from the Messages menu.
