How to Spot a Bot on Twitter
To tell if an account on Twitter is fake, look at their tweets. Bots typically tweet only a few times a day, and they have a particular end in mind. These accounts will be overly obsessed with one subject, tweet the same link repeatedly, and tweet very little else. You can also spot a fake account by looking at the pattern of their tweets over time. They may post at an unnaturally high rate, or they may be too inconsistent with their attitudes towards topics.

Despite what most people may think, artificial intelligence researcher Lemoine is still fighting the good fight. Google’s LaMDA chatbot is not sentient, can feel, or have thoughts. Using a combination of machine learning and human intuition, Lemoine can identify bots on Twitter. He has been studying AI and machine learning for seven years. He helped to create an algorithm that removes bias from machine learning systems. In 2015, after the outbreak of the coronavirus, Lemoine decided to focus his efforts on projects with clear public benefit. He transferred his team to Responsible AI.
While he doesn’t believe that Twitter bots are deliberately spreading false news, he believes that human beings spread false news on Twitter much faster than bots. This phenomenon may occur on other social media platforms as well. While Vosoughi’s study has uncovered some surprising results, he warns against drawing conclusions too quickly. And while this is a great start, researchers aren’t quite there yet.
Another way to identify bots is by analyzing the content of an account’s profile. Typically, a bot will use formulaic language and tweet the same link over again. Moreover, bots often focus on a single topic or theme and miss obvious jokes. Using your best judgment when sharing suspicious posts is key. Otherwise, your tweets could be being used by an actual human.
