How to Send a Private Message on Facebook to Someone Who Isn’t Your Friend

Messages to your friends automatically notify them
If you want to send a message to someone who is not a friend of yours, you can do so via Facebook’s Messenger app. You can find the Messenger icon on the navigation bar in the top-right corner of the page. It looks like a tiny speech bubble with a squiggly line in the center. Click the icon to open a small message window. Enter the name of the person you’d like to message and click the Send icon. The person you’re sending the message to will receive the message, and you’ll be notified via Facebook as well.
You can see when a message has been read by others by checking their message request folder. If you don’t want to bother them, you can reply to the message, report it, or block it as spam. The message will be delivered to your Facebook chat list, and if they’re not your friends, you can reply to them if you like. If you don’t want them to see your message, you can block them.
Messages to non-friends
There are two main ways to view the private messages on Facebook of someone you’re not friends with. The first is to open up the person’s profile page and click on the “Add Friend” button. Secondly, you can view the messages hidden from you by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of the chat window. This will show you a list of people who have tried to message you but weren’t able to.
The second way is to use Facebook Messenger to read private messages from non-friends. The message will appear in the user’s message request folder. You can then reply to or block the person or report them to Facebook. Facebook will send messages to your “chat list,” which is where most spam is sent. Messages from non-friends will appear in the Message Requests Inbox, while messages from friends will be sent to your normal inbox. Fortunately, Facebook provides a way to access these messages, though most hidden messages are not important.
