We apply Manes and Wolfson&#8217;s theory of compliment form and Herbert&#8217;s theory of compliment responses to identify three major types of compliment response: c, g, and h. We find that compliments on Instagram are short, have minimal syntactic pattern, and are dominated by adjectives. We find that compliments on Instagram vary in form depending on their intended audience and the person who is receiving the compliment.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to respond to a compliment is by showing appreciation for the commenter. You can do this by smiling and writing a brief message thanking the person for his compliment. Be careful not to spam the message, as spammers may send you a dreary comment or a spammy comment.
