The causes have been attributed to multiple reasons, including DNS failure, Internal technical problem, and Misinformation on social media. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at each of these factors. But how can you know if they’re the culprit? Read on for our breakdown of the reasons why these two platforms are down and how you can avoid the next time this happens.

DNS failure

If you’ve ever wondered why websites like Facebook and Instagram go offline, it’s probably because of a DNS failure. The decentralized nature of DNS systems means that any changes made to them will propagate across the entire internet, so an outage could take 24 hours or more to be fully restored. But fear not, as Facebook and Instagram are back in business! The DNS failure will take place when one DNS server’s cache value is too long for the next.

The problem started on Monday, with Facebook’s Workplace internal communications platform going down. That meant that employees of Facebook’s business could no longer receive external emails. The problem was quickly resolved by Akamai Technologies, the largest content delivery network in the world. Facebook’s servers will eventually come back online, but the company apologized for the inconvenience. Meanwhile, users may be stuck without their favorite social media site for up to five hours.

Internal technical issue

The company has a new problem to deal with: the sudden loss of Instagram and Facebook services. The social media site was down for more than 24 hours on Sunday. The company says the outage is a result of a technical problem with their servers. The company plans to make a full restoration of its services later this week. Meanwhile, the company’s CEO is scheduled to testify before a Senate subcommittee on the effects of the social networking platform on young people’s mental health.

Marketwatch has estimated that the outage cost the company tens of millions of dollars. It has compared the lost hours to the company’s latest revenue report. In fact, the company had experienced an outage just two years ago. It’s the biggest setback in its history, and the most widespread since the beginning of 2019. Regardless of the reason for the outage, a technical error can cripple even the most sophisticated internet companies. This time, a change in the company’s server configuration took the site offline for more than 24 hours.

Workplace platform

Workplace platform Facebook and Instagram are down for everyone – it’s a snow day for the social media giant. The outage has caused problems for employees using their work-issued phones and their email accounts. As a result, employees are unable to connect to each other, access their email accounts, or access conference rooms on the company’s computer systems. The platforms’ outage is a result of the company’s Workplace platform, which has been a staple for internal communication.

The outage has come a day after Facebook and Instagram have already come under fire from lawmakers, which have expressed their concerns about the company’s new product, Instagram Kids. Meanwhile, a massive document leak from a whistleblower, Frances Haugen, has caused some skepticism in the company’s decision to launch Instagram Kids. It’s unclear whether this outage will affect Workplace or Messenger, but it’s hard to say without any concrete information.

Misinformation on social media

The recent outages of Facebook and Instagram drew the ire of social media users. The outage occurred less than a week after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg changed its name from Facebook to Meta, which is a play on the word “metaverse.” Users rushed to Twitter to express their frustration, and the hashtag #instagramdown was a trending topic. Twitter users poked fun at Zuckerberg and the company for allegedly compromising user privacy.

While this was an inconvenience for many, it could have been a major problem for small businesses in the developing world. Organisations relying on WhatsApp for communication are also impacted. The outage began at 16:45 BST on Monday, and it was so disruptive that the downtime caused havoc at Facebook’s California headquarters. However, the outage was short lived. The social media giant said the outage was caused by a “configuration change” and isn’t related to earlier outages.

Threat to reputation

In October, Facebook went offline for six hours, knocking out the world’s largest social network and its sister applications. While the outage was relatively brief, it sparked an outcry among lawmakers and regulators. In the aftermath, a Facebook whistleblower outlined company wrongdoing, including promoting eating disorders and undermining democracy. Some wondered whether the world would be better off if the site was down permanently.

A large number of Facebook accounts are fake or duplicate. Bad actors create these accounts and send fake friend requests to obtain valuable personal information. Once these accounts are in use, cybercriminals use that data to launch phishing attacks and steal confidential information. Eighty percent of businesses are targeted by cybercriminals, who use this data to manipulate leadership teams, resulting in serious financial and reputational damage. This outage also threatens the social media presence of businesses.

Why Are Facebook and Instagram Down?
