First, you need to know that location plays a large role in Twitter&#8217;s algorithm. By default, the service only shows you trends that are relevant to your current location. To get around this, you should check the &#8220;Show content relevant to your location&#8221; and uncheck the &#8220;Trends for you&#8221; box. If you don&#8217;t want to see trending topics for your location, you can export them to Excel, a spreadsheet, or some other file format.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Location_plays_a_big_part_in_Twitters_algorithm\"><\/span>Location plays a big part in Twitter&#8217;s algorithm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A study by Takhteyev, et al. found that location plays a large role in Twitter&#8217;s algorithm. The number of tweets from a particular location is directly related to the volume of retweets it receives. This finding explains why the algorithms for &#8220;following&#8221; and &#8220;unfollowing&#8221; are so different. The authors based their findings on the number of tweets from different locations, and then used this data to expand the geographic coverage of tweets.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these differences, Twitter appears to prioritize georeferenced tweets from users who tweet from their own locations. Nearly three-quarters of tweets contain geolocation data. Because the geolocation of users is determined based on their time zone, Twitter can assign a location to a user&#8217;s tweets based on that location. That way, South Americans can connect with users in North America.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Checking_the_Show_content_in_this_location_box\"><\/span>Checking the &#8220;Show content in this location&#8221; box<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;re curious about the latest global trends on Twitter, check out the Explore tab and look for hashtags related to your location. Once you&#8217;ve done that, you&#8217;ll be able to see trends worldwide as well as in your area. To make it easier to find the global trends, you can disable the &#8220;Show content in this location&#8221; option. You can also use the search box to narrow down your search.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see global trends on Twitter, you can access this option via the Twitter app. To turn off global trends, click on your profile icon in the top right corner. After that, click on the privacy &amp; security option. Then, select the location you&#8217;d like to view the content for. To view worldwide trends, you must uncheck the box next to &#8220;Show content in this location.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unchecking_the_Trends_for_you_box\"><\/span>Unchecking the &#8220;Trends for you&#8221; box<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To uncheck the &#8220;Trends for you&#8221; option on Twitter, you must first log in to your account. The Explore tab will show you recommended trends. If you&#8217;d prefer to see more trends, tap Show more to see them all. This way, you&#8217;ll get a curated list of global trends that you&#8217;ll be interested in. However, you can also uncheck the &#8220;Trends for you&#8221; option, which will remove the recommended trend.<\/p>\n<p>The Trends for you feature shows content from the region where you live. But if you want to see worldwide trends, uncheck &#8220;Trends for you&#8221; or &#8220;Show content based on location.&#8221; To see trending content from other countries, go to the Explore page and select the country you want to see it in. You can refine your search further by choosing a specific hashtag.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exporting_trending_topics_to_Excel\"><\/span>Exporting trending topics to Excel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Until recently, exporting trending topics from Twitter was not possible. Fortunately, that has changed now. This article will walk you through exporting these lists in Excel. First, select the columns you&#8217;d like to export. Once this is done, go to the &#8220;Export&#8221; tab in Excel and select &#8220;Export data as json.&#8221; Then, in the &#8216;Data Sources&#8217; tab, click &#8220;Tweets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You should now be able to download up to 2,000 tweets in Excel. This data is of fine granularity: you&#8217;ll have the tweet text, creator, likes, retweets, and other information. In addition, you can export the time when the tweet was created, too.
