Elon Musk has been a prominent Twitter figure for years. He has publicly sparred with Bill Gates, and jokingly tossed shade at issues like the COVID-19 pandemic or gender pronouns. He has not had a Twitter filter, and now intends to remove it to allow people to express their opinions. Here&#8217;s what you need to know about Elon Musk&#8217;s plan to make Twitter even more open.<\/p>\n<p>While he owns a substantial portion of Twitter stock, Elon Musk won&#8217;t be actively involved in day-to-day management. Instead, he&#8217;ll delegate this task to Parag Agrawal, an Indian-American software engineer who joined the company in 2011. Despite Musk&#8217;s interest in Twitter, it&#8217;s unlikely he will have any influence over the company&#8217;s operations. Nonetheless, Musk&#8217;s decision to take control of the company has already triggered speculation about Musk&#8217;s influence.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jack_Dorsey\"><\/span>Jack Dorsey<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s no secret that Twitter&#8217;s CEO, Jack Dorsey, is a big proponent of Bitcoin. The controversial cryptocurrency has been praised by many as a principled, resilient currency, and he has even been known to use it himself to buy Bitcoin. He recently maxed out the weekly limit on the Square Cash App, and he has also criticized Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong for banning employee activism. During a congressional hearing in September 2018, Dorsey addressed allegations of political bias against his company.<\/p>\n<p>In the months following his resignation as CEO of Twitter, Dorsey was still actively involved with the company, but he became less hands-on in his leadership. Elon Musk tweeted support for Dorsey and even used an emoji to describe him. However, in a show of support for Dorsey, Twitter&#8217;s board decided to remove the nose ring, and instead named a new CEO, Evan Williams.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Evan_Williams\"><\/span>Evan Williams<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you have ever wondered how Evan Williams made a fortune on the internet, you&#8217;re not alone. The Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey and his wife, Joanna, also have stakes in the company. Jack will own more than four percent of Twitter following its IPO. Williams was Twitter&#8217;s CEO for four years until 2010. In 2011, he sold the company to a new owner, Dick Costolo, and the two will continue to work together.<\/p>\n<p>Before founding Twitter, Evan Williams served as a board member and an investor. He went on to become CEO of the company in October 2008. The company quickly became wildly successful, with many celebrities using it. Since stepping down as CEO in 2010, Williams has focused on other ventures. In 2012, he co-founded the blogging platform Medium, which promotes longer posts. This allows writers to reach a wider audience and allow readers to comment on articles and content they find interesting.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Biz_Stone\"><\/span>Biz Stone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this year, Stone and Dorsey stepped down as co-CEOs of Twitter, but the company is now led by former Facebook exec Evan Williams. Williams pushed out Dorsey, who had founded the social networking site. Stone stayed on as interim CEO in August of 2015, and then became CEO permanently in December. Stone and Dorsey are now working together to create a new business model for the site.<\/p>\n<p>The two co-founded Jelly, a social networking site that let users ask questions. Jelly was sold to Pinterest in 2017 and Stone returned to Twitter. He also served as an adviser to several Web companies and wrote several books. His first book, Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content, was published in 2002. His second book, Who Let the Blogs Out?, was published in 2004.
