While the company has emphasized that he is a long-term investor, Musk has also pondered starting a rival social network. While industry analysts are skeptical that Musk will stay passive, the recent news has fueled a spike in Twitter stock. The company is worth around $3.6 billion as of Friday. Elon Musk&#8217;s stake increased by almost 5% in the first quarter. The Vanguard Group owns 10.3% of the company. Now, Vanguard has increased its stake to over 82.4 million shares, or 10.3 percent of the company&#8217;s total share value. In its latest filing, Vanguard disclosed that it will continue to invest in Twitter, if its growth plans remain on track.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes as Elon Musk, one of the world&#8217;s richest men, is considering a hostile takeover of Twitter, and is planning to increase his stake in the company. He is claiming that taking the firm private will protect free speech and bring transparency to decision-making. The question is, can Twitter handle the increased competition from Elon Musk? If so, will Elon Musk&#8217;s involvement affect Twitter&#8217;s future growth?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Morgan_Stanley_Investment_Management\"><\/span>Morgan Stanley Investment Management<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Morgan Stanley is a major global investment bank and wealth management company. At year-end 2021, it held 67 million shares of Twitter, accounting for 8.4% of the company&#8217;s total outstanding shares. BlackRock, a financial services and investment management firm based in Boston, owned more than 52.1 million shares, or a 6.5% stake. State Street Corporation, a bank holding company based in Boston, held 36.4 million shares of Twitter in its funds. This represents a 4.5% stake in Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, bought more than a third of Twitter shares in late October. The investment is valued at nearly $3 billion. Previously, Musk was the biggest shareholder, owning a 9.1% stake. Today, the majority of Twitter shares are held by institutions, including Morgan Stanley and BlackRock Investment Management.
