In addition, Ron Filipkowski, who monitors right-wing activity on Twitter, has seen her account lose up to 1,591 followers on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"100_million\"><\/span>100 million<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A recent study by TechCrunch found that Twitter&#8217;s number of daily active users fell by 53,000 in 2022. While the number may seem small, this decline was a long time coming. Twitter has grown so rapidly, it has lost more than 100 million users in a mere three years. While there are many factors that contributed to this decline, it&#8217;s still a troubling statistic. Twitter&#8217;s data was based on daily active users from 2017 to 2020. While the company claims it has miscounted the number of lost users, it&#8217;s hard to say for sure.<\/p>\n<p>A recent report by Business of Apps estimates that there are now 206 million daily users on Twitter. In the US alone, Twitter&#8217;s user base accounts for almost 100 percent of its content. Even though this number may be small, it represents a core segment of the Twitter user base that remains extremely active. Even so, it&#8217;s important to note that Twitter&#8217;s growth rate is still a factor, but its recent downturn has been a contributing factor.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"200_million\"><\/span>200 million<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In July, DataReportal reported that Twitter lost about 200 million active users in 2022. The company lowered the number by about five million users from its July 2017 total. The overcount was a result of an error with linked accounts. It is not clear how many users will remain, but if Twitter continues to overcount users, it will end up losing a lot more than 200 million. Until now, Twitter had a few reasons to downplay the loss of users.<\/p>\n<p>It was only in March 2011 that Twitter hit the landmark figure. Its monthly active user base grew by nearly four hundred million from March last year. Twitter has a massive user base. It is one of the most popular social networks for news consumption. As of March, there were more than 350 million tweets per day. That&#8217;s a significant increase from the 140 million monthly users it had last year. However, the social media site faces the possibility of losing as many as 200 million users in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"70_million\"><\/span>70 million<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to believe that the social media platform Twitter has lost 70 million users by 2022. Even though its US user base accounts for half of its revenue, the company still remains unprofitable. While losses increased by 80% over the previous year, the firm lowered its loss-per-user by a third. The company now boasts 450 million monthly active users. Although its use in the US is stagnant, it continues to grow internationally. Age ranges are almost equal. The highest age bracket is 35-44.<\/p>\n<p>While Twitter has pledged to protect the free speech of its users, its metric for measuring user growth has failed to deliver on that promise. The company miscounted user growth and reported over 2 million mDAUs when it didn&#8217;t. Now, the company is suffering a lackluster stock price. Its metric is not comparable to the growth rates of rival social networks. But the numbers aren&#8217;t entirely bad. Twitter will likely continue to struggle if it continues to lose users.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"166_million\"><\/span>166 million<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When it comes to measuring Twitter&#8217;s growth, mDAUs are the key metric. The company grew slowly, and its metric was supposed to give advertisers an accurate sense of the size of its user base. But the company quickly overcounted users and ended up with over two million more mDAUs than it had in reality. Regardless of the true figure, it&#8217;s not an encouraging sign for advertisers.<\/p>\n<p>As of the first quarter of 2019, Twitter reported 330 million monthly active users worldwide. That represents a 24% growth over the previous year. Despite the loss, Twitter&#8217;s US user base is still remarkably stable at around 450 million monthly active users. Although usage in the US has stagnated, usage has increased internationally. In the US, Twitter has a nearly equal split of users between age groups, with the highest proportion of users in the 35-44 bracket.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"693_million\"><\/span>69.3 million<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Twitter&#8217;s data shows that it will lose 69.3 million active users in 2022, a decline of about 53,000 accounts from 2017. This decline is not surprising since Twitter has been over-counting its users for the past three years. Elon Musk recently purchased the site, but the data does not show the number of users who have actually left the service. Nevertheless, it would be a good sign if the social media giant were able to increase its user base.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Twitter&#8217;s overall number of mDAUs was higher than it was in the first quarter of 2016. But this figure was not comparable to Facebook&#8217;s, which reported 1.9 billion mDAUs. In the last quarter of last year, Twitter managed to fend off the problem by inventing a new metric: mDAUs.
