Elon Musk also promised to make sweeping changes to Twitter in the future. Last night, he asked his 80 million followers if they would like to see an edit button on the social network. A majority of his followers responded &#8220;yes&#8221; to the poll. Elon Musk has made this issue a point to improve Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently became the largest shareholder of the social networking site, and has been a frequent critic. Musk often uses Twitter as a mouthpiece, sharing Tesla news, crude jokes, and memes. However, his use of the service has landed him in hot water. In the past, he&#8217;s also had to get approval from corporate lawyers before tweeting, a practice he plans to stop.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Open-source_algorithm\"><\/span>Open-source algorithm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Elon Musk, founder of Tesla, has just announced his plan to buy Twitter and open-source the company&#8217;s algorithm. The news was met with thunderous applause. Musk&#8217;s decision to make the algorithm open-source would bring more transparency to Twitter. However, many people have opposed this change in the past, claiming that it could invite malicious actors to &#8220;game&#8221; the algorithm and make it a target for more intense cyberattacks.<\/p>\n<p>Musk&#8217;s plan to publish the algorithm&#8217;s code in open source makes sense from a user perspective. Without transparency, users are unaware of how powerful social media are. However, releasing the algorithm&#8217;s code would let users decide what to prioritize, and the algorithms would have more information to work with. Furthermore, the algorithm could allow other users to modify it, and other companies could even create their own applications based on it.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ad-free_version\"><\/span>Ad-free version<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is changing Twitter from an ad-supported service to an ad-free one. While he has made clear he wants the social network to become more user-friendly, experts wonder if Musk understands what he&#8217;s getting into. Many conservative users have already launched competing &#8220;free speech&#8221; platforms and struggled with toxicity, while one was even cut off by its technology providers.<\/p>\n<p>The new paid service, called Twitter Blue, hasn&#8217;t gained much traction since its launch last year. While Twitter ads are less intrusive, Musk believes that businesses and governments will pay for ad-free access. The downside of this plan is that it will probably cost a lot more than $2.99, but Musk is hoping to turn Twitter into a profit-generating machine in the process.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Free_speech_focus\"><\/span>Free speech focus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A decade ago, Elon Musk made a bold offer to buy Twitter for $44 billion. In the weeks before, he had amassed a large stake in the social media platform. As a result, the initial response to the Twitter buyout broke along traditional political lines. Conservatives hailed the deal as a victory for free speech, while liberals expressed concern over Musk&#8217;s approach to content moderation. In his post, Musk said he had &#8220;polled&#8221; Twitter users to see which topics they were most concerned about and what he&#8217;d focus on first in changing the governance of the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk has suggested that Twitter allow users to edit their posts, which the company confirmed is in the works. In addition, he suggested removing advertising from Twitter Blue, which would inevitably reduce its revenue. Currently, Twitter makes ninety percent of its revenue through advertising, which is an important consideration as it faces intense competition from platforms like TikTok.
