There are many reasons to do this, but perhaps none is more important than your own security. Twitter offers several ways to protect your account, including the ability to make your tweets private. Following are some of these reasons and other options. Here&#8217;s a quick overview of all of them. Also, remember to keep your password secret and other account information confidential. And, don&#8217;t forget to follow Twitter&#8217;s terms and policies to ensure your privacy.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Making_your_tweets_private\"><\/span>Making your tweets private<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve opted to make your tweets private on Twitter, you have a few different options to choose from. The first option will allow only people you&#8217;ve chosen to follow to see them. This option is not available for all users of Twitter. To change this setting, go to the Account Settings section and click on Privacy. Here, you can choose who can view your tweets and tagged photos. To do this, simply move your mouse over the box on the right side of your Twitter profile.<\/p>\n<p>You can also choose to make your tweets private on Twitter if you don&#8217;t want everyone to see them. This option is available for iOS and Android users, and you can make your tweets private from there. Unlike the first option, however, this setting is not retroactive, so any followers you have before setting your account to private will still be able to see them. You can choose to remove these followers from your account, or even mute your account.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Switching_to_a_private_account\"><\/span>Switching to a private account<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you want to avoid following unwanted people, switching to a private Twitter account is a good idea. This way, only those you approve as followers will be able to see what you&#8217;ve been tweeting. It&#8217;s important to note, however, that switching to a private account can have some unintended consequences. The following are some of these consequences:<\/p>\n<p>Privacy is a primary concern when it comes to social networking sites, but there are situations where it&#8217;s desirable to keep tweets private. For instance, if you&#8217;re applying for a new job, you might not want prospective colleagues or clients to know what you&#8217;ve been up to. While your tweets will still appear on search results, anyone who does not have access to your account will not be able to see them.<\/p>\n<p>Before you switch to a private Twitter account, you&#8217;ll have to ask for permission from the person you want to follow. This step may be complicated, but it&#8217;s a necessary one. Just follow the instructions on screen and you&#8217;ll be able to avoid receiving unwanted follower requests. You&#8217;ll also have to check whether the person is following you or not. If you&#8217;ve already followed someone, it&#8217;s a good idea to follow them back. You can even switch back to a public account. To do this, simply return the slider for &#8220;Protect my Tweets&#8221; to the first position and uncheck the box.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Protecting_your_account_information\"><\/span>Protecting your account information<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Department of Justice has recently filed a complaint against Twitter for asking users for their email and phone numbers in order to reset their passwords and unlock blocked accounts. While the company is not liable for these actions, it has taken steps to protect its users&#8217; information. One such measure is enabling two-factor authentication, which requires a code to be sent to your email or phone. Once you&#8217;ve entered this code, you can access your Twitter account.<\/p>\n<p>Another method of protecting your account information on Twitter is by using security keys. These are password-protected tokens that you create yourself. Twitter has developed a hardware security key that uses WebAuthn standards for two-factor authentication. This makes it impossible for thieves to access your account without the security key. This security measure can be a good backup for your account if you ever lose your phone or computer. The new feature can also be used offline. To make sure your account information stays safe on Twitter, it&#8217;s important to keep your security key and password in a safe place.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Switching_to_a_private_account_is_relevant_for_brands\"><\/span>Switching to a private account is relevant for brands<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the best ways to protect your brand&#8217;s feed is to switch to a private Twitter account. You also won&#8217;t be able to reply to any followers that don&#8217;t approve of your account, which is particularly relevant for brands.
