These weapons use high-temperature temperatures to produce a devastating blast that sucks air from the victims&#8217; lungs. In response, Britain&#8217;s defence ministry confirmed that Russia is using thermobaric weapons in Ukraine. What is it, and is it illegal? This article will explain the impact and the potential for misuse of thermobaric weapons.<\/p>\n<p>Thermobaric weapons have limited utility against military targets. Their primary use has been against civilian areas. In terms of destructive capability, these weapons are not comparable to nuclear weapons. The comparisons to barrel bombs, cluster munitions, and incendiary munitions are more appropriate. A typical vacuum bomb contains a large container filled with fuel and two explosive charges, the first of which opens the container and releases the fuel, causing a fireball. The second charge ignites the fuel and creates a large blast wave.<\/p>\n<p>A vacuum bomb, or thermobaric bomb, creates high-temperature explosions. It works by sucking the surrounding air and igniting it to create a massive fireball. The blast wave of a vacuum bomb is significantly longer than that of a conventional explosive, vaporising human bodies in the process. The effect is devastating to defenders.
