Facebook announced that it had reached a record of 1.88 billion daily active users, and the user base has grown to more than one billion users. Despite a number of problems, Facebook is still the leading social media site, and it continues to expand into new markets with products like Quest 2 and Facebook Gaming.<\/p>\n<p>The site has a large demographic mix with 56% men and 44% women. The largest demographic group, ages 25-35, comprises about 20 percent of the total. The smallest demographic group, aging 65 and older, comprises only 6% of all Facebook users. However, Facebook also claims that nearly two-thirds of U.S. adults use the service each day, including eight percent of college graduates. Furthermore, 75% of Facebook users earn more than seventy thousand dollars a year.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"188_billion_mobile-based_active_users\"><\/span>1.88 billion mobile-based active users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As of December 2012, Facebook has more than 1.88 billion mobile-based active users. That number is a staggering increase from the six billion mobile users it had in December 2011. By comparison, there are 8 billion monthly active users and 1.6 billion daily active users. Of these, 65.9% log in daily and the rest log in once a week. This statistic makes Facebook a valuable resource for businesses as it gives them access to an enormous pool of potential customers.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook&#8217;s numbers are important because it determines its success and growth largely based on its user base and activity. Keeping active users is critical to maintaining profits and introducing new features. Facebook&#8217;s data is based on Facebook and Messenger, excluding WhatsApp and Instagram. Its daily active users are measured by number of times the user logs in each day, or DAUs. The daily active user count is the number of people who use Facebook and Messenger at least once a day.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"188_billion_monthly_active_users\"><\/span>1.88 billion monthly active users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Today, more than 1.88 billion people use Facebook on a daily basis. While the main purpose of these Facebook users can differ, the majority use the platform to communicate and connect with others. As a result, Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms today. It has gained a massive number of followers and has been a successful source of advertising for a variety of businesses and organizations. The popularity of Facebook has grown to the point that it has 60 million business pages worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>In the first quarter of 2021, Facebook reported gains in its revenue and user base. It saw a rise in its Other Revenue, largely driven by sales of Oculus VR and the Portal smart speaker. Facebook&#8217;s Monthly Active User (MAU) count rose to 2.85 billion, up 10% year-over-year. The growth was largely concentrated in the Asia-Pacific region, where Facebook has the highest growth.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"258_million_daily_active_users\"><\/span>258 million daily active users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the U.S., there are more than 258 million daily active users on Facebook. According to Facebook&#8217;s latest annual report, 76% of that total are active every day. The number of active users on Facebook is expected to increase in the coming years. In 2020, Facebook expects to have over 4 billion active monthly users worldwide. In the past year, it was estimated that India alone had more than 320 million daily active users.<\/p>\n<p>There are two types of Facebook users: daily and monthly. Daily active users refer to those who visit the Facebook website on a daily basis, whether through a mobile device application or a web browser. Monthly active users refer to people who visit the site at least one time a month. Facebook counts daily active users as logged-in users, which includes those who log in on their mobile devices. The number of monthly active users may be lower, but it is still high.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Slower_adoption_of_other_social_media_platforms\"><\/span>Slower adoption of other social media platforms<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While the number of people using Facebook, Instagram, and other social media is rapidly increasing, younger generations may not be as keen on the medium. The GSMA Intelligence reports that internet use among young adults is not increasing as quickly as that of older adults. In low-income countries, for instance, there are hundreds of millions of people who have no idea the internet exists. In poorer countries, it is particularly common for older, less educated women to be unaware of its existence. There is a gender imbalance in the number of users on social media: men account for 18 percent of usage, while women make up nearly two-thirds of it in Southern Asia.<\/p>\n<p>The reason for this inertia is not entirely clear. Many financial institutions still feel like they&#8217;re behind the curve when it comes to using social media. In fact, most of them believe they are behind in social media adoption, and none believe they&#8217;re doing better than their peers. This is one of the key reasons why these new channels aren&#8217;t being used by all financial institutions. But, what can we do?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fake_accounts_on_Facebook\"><\/span>Fake accounts on Facebook<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As a social network, Facebook has faced many challenges in controlling the content that users share on its platform, and this issue is no exception. In the past year, Facebook has taken down more than 3 billion fake accounts &#8211; a number that&#8217;s far higher than the number it reported in 2016. Last year, Facebook took down 2.2 billion fake accounts &#8211; a figure that&#8217;s a large increase from the year before. However, the company still can&#8217;t stop all the fake accounts circulating on the social network.<\/p>\n<p>It is not yet clear how many fake accounts are on Facebook, and the number of accounts deleted by the social network varies. The company estimates that around 5% of monthly active Facebook users are fake and duplicate. That&#8217;s still more than one-third of the world&#8217;s population. But if you remove the fake and duplicate accounts from that figure, the number actually becomes much lower. Despite the rise in fake accounts, Facebook still promotes a massive 2.45 billion monthly users, which makes it one-third of the world&#8217;s population. However, after adjusting for fake and duplicate accounts, the growth in user numbers seems modest.
