Cyber criminals often try to guess passwords by researching the victim online and using their personal information to guess their own. By using common words or word combinations, cyber criminals can access many different accounts, including Facebook. As a result, it is crucial to create strong passwords for each of your accounts to avoid being targeted by hackers.<\/p>\n<p>A strong password is long and complex, and has many characters. It should contain uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Passwords should also not contain any personal information. For example, your first name, birth date, or address are not good choices. Avoid using passwords that contain common words like &#8220;myfirstborn daughter&#8221; or &#8220;myfirstborn son&#8221; or &#8220;mydog&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enable_two-factor_authentication\"><\/span>Enable two-factor authentication<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Two-factor authentication, also known as two-step verification, adds an additional layer of security to your social media accounts. You can set up two-factor authentication on Facebook by using your mobile phone or third-party authentication app. This will require you to enter a code sent to your phone every time you try to access your account. Once you&#8217;ve entered this code, you&#8217;ll no longer be able to access your Facebook account &#8211; and you&#8217;ll be prompted to re-enter your password.<\/p>\n<p>Two-factor authentication is a security method that encrypts your Facebook account by sending you a code through text messages or a third-party app. To enable this security feature, you can enter your phone number and select a new one, a static recovery code, or a security key. However, if you lose or misplace your 2FA device, backup methods are recommended. Once you&#8217;ve made these security steps, you&#8217;re ready to sign into Facebook with two-factor authentication.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Log_out_of_your_Facebook_account\"><\/span>Log out of your Facebook account<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>After using your Facebook account on a computer, smartphone or tablet, you may want to log out. To do so, click on the downward-facing arrow in the top-right corner of your screen. This will bring up a list of all the devices you are logged in to Facebook on. Click &#8220;Log Out of All Sessions&#8221; and confirm your decision. Alternatively, you can click &#8220;Log Out of Specific Devices&#8221; to log out of individual devices.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook app on iPhone is very similar to the Android version. To log out of your account, go to the hamburger menu and press &#8220;Log Out.&#8221; You can also press &#8220;Log Out&#8221; if you&#8217;re using the Facebook app. On iPhone, you can scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap &#8220;Log Out.&#8221; You&#8217;ll be prompted to confirm your decision. You can also log out of your Facebook account from the Facebook website by following the same steps on your computer.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Check_for_unrecognized_browser_plug-ins\"><\/span>Check for unrecognized browser plug-ins<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you are one of the billions of Facebook users, you know that your account contains a wealth of personal information. In order to protect your account, make sure that you are running the latest security software and have a good antivirus program installed. Also, avoid installing suspicious-looking browser add-ons or extensions that appear to be from Facebook. These can be exploited by hackers to get access to your account.<\/p>\n<p>To check for unrecognized browser plug ins, open the Settings page of Facebook and click on Security and Login. You will find options for two-factor authentication, password changes, and alerts about unrecognised logins. Unrecognised devices are identified by three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the screen. In other words, you may have given rogue applications extensive access to your Facebook profile. This means that any posts or activity you find suspicious may be caused by such an app.<\/p>\n<p>Before downloading and installing any application, you should check whether it allows third-party apps to access your Facebook account. While Facebook has a feature called Single Sign On, it gives apps access to information about your friends. You can limit the information third-party apps can access by altering your settings in the app, deleting it from your profile, and deleting it.
