However, without a comprehensive guide for medical professionals, further missteps may be made. In addition to this, there is no clear national or international guidance on how to handle inappropriate posts on social media, which could lead to even more problems.<\/p>\n<p>Healthcare professionals can use TikTok as a tool to promote their work and share tips with their audiences. However, they should be careful when posting patient-identifying characteristics. HIPAA prohibits the sharing of PHI, so if they make a video about a patient, they may violate their own ethical code. Also, they should avoid using the video as a platform for medical consultations. TikTok is not appropriate for video consultations, so doctors should use caution when using the platform.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Restrictions_on_self-promotion\"><\/span>Restrictions on self-promotion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite the success of the platform, doctors are often subjected to censorship. TikTok has recently updated its community guidelines to ensure the safety and security of users. It also prohibits deadnaming, misgendering, misogyny, and disordered eating. However, this move is unlikely to affect doctors. They can still post videos that promote themselves on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Social media is a powerful platform for self-promotion. Doctors can promote their practice and reach a new audience by creating videos on TikTok. TikTok is a social media platform dedicated to short videos that typically last 15 to 60 seconds. It is used by more than a billion users worldwide and has its own set of etiquette rules.<\/p>\n<p>There are several restrictions on self-promotion on social media. Doctors should avoid stating that they are the best in the world or guarantee results. Videos and selfies should not depict a doctor in work settings as it may violate a patient&#8217;s privacy. Furthermore, doctors cannot expose their patient&#8217;s face without the patient&#8217;s consent. However, one type of video has become more popular than any other, with a gynecologist taking the platform to dispel myths about reproductive health.
