The data is clear: the number of downloads per day continues to grow.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"App_Annies_global_download_chart\"><\/span>App Annie&#8217;s global download chart<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In its latest report, App Annie shows TikTok topping the global download chart for Christmas 2018. This comes as no surprise, since both apps have been dominating daily download charts for the past year. Facebook and Instagram have also topped the charts, and both apps continue to grow rapidly, as consumers shift their preferences to encrypted messaging services. However, there are some differences between the two platforms. The global download chart for Facebook&#8217;s Instagram, for instance, has less than half as many downloads as TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>While Google dominated the download charts in the first half of 2018, TikTok began to knock Google off the top spot in February. It has remained in the number one spot since the first half of 2020, and has held on to its position as the most popular social video app in the world. The number of users on TikTok continues to increase, even as the Chinese government bans it in certain countries.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pew_Research_data\"><\/span>Pew Research data<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A recent survey by Pew Research found that one in four U.S. adults has used TikTok, with the highest rates among low-income households. Of those, 18 percent of users are under the age of 30, and many of those households are likely student flats. In the U.S., the app has an overall reach of 50.3 percent, resulting in 130,962,500 people being exposed to the advertising.<\/p>\n<p>While TikTok is a fun app, its most valuable component is creators. There are over 100,000 creators in TikTok&#8217;s Creator Marketplace, and many of these individuals have their own followings. Brands, too, benefit. Three-quarters of users discover new brands through the content created by a creator. While this is good news for both the creator and the brand, there is more to the story than that.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Insider_Intelligences_consumer_spend_forecast\"><\/span>Insider Intelligence&#8217;s consumer spend forecast<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While Facebook and Instagram continue to dominate the digital ad market, they are facing increased scrutiny for their China ties. According to BuzzFeed News, employees of Chinese video app ByteDance were able to access U.S. user data. The Senate Intelligence Committee has asked the FTC to look into the matter. Meanwhile, the European Union is conducting regulatory review over TikTok&#8217;s personalized advertising features.<\/p>\n<p>Sensor Tower, a leading analytics company, has estimated that TikTok will reach three billion downloads worldwide by 2021. Compared to Snapchat, the Chinese video app will grow twice as fast this year and will surpass 3 billion downloads globally by 2025. However, Insider Intelligence projects a slower growth rate of 15.1% annually through 2022. TikTok&#8217;s growth is fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has fueled a rise in mobile app usage worldwide.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"TikToks_reach_among_low-income_families\"><\/span>TikTok&#8217;s reach among low-income families<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to G.W.I. research, 45% of TikTok users identify as low-income households, with 42% supporting their favorite artists. In February 2021, Justin Bieber held a TikTok livestream for Valentine&#8217;s Day, drawing four million unique viewers. It was the first full-length live performance by a single artist on TikTok. In April 2019, TikTok&#8217;s website hit a milestone of 1 million daily page views.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2019, the Chinese government banned the app, but it has continued to grow in popularity in other countries. The official 2019 Douyin Data Report released by the platform reveals a fascinating view of the average Douyin user. In March 2019, there were more than 600 million active daily users in China. It has since grown to include millions of users aged between 18 and 30 years. But TikTok has not released usage statistics for China.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_popular_with_female_users\"><\/span>It&#8217;s popular with female users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most of the users of TikTok are young adults and teenagers, and the number is expected to reach 69 percent of US teens by fall 2020. The app was designed with these users in mind, and according to 2020 stats, 62 percent of its users are in the under-35 age group. Teens have taken to the app in droves, with 29 percent of them saying that TikTok is their favorite social media platform. TikTok is a unique platform for teens that allows them to express themselves through video creation. They can share videos of themselves and their friends, record duets with their friends, or share reactions to other users&#8217; videos.<\/p>\n<p>Another positive factor for the app is that it has a more diverse user base than most social media platforms. In the United States, women account for over sixty percent of all active TikTok accounts, compared to just 39 percent for male users. Additionally, the app is popular with female users of all ages, with a gender split of almost 50 percent for women and 57 percent for men.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_growing_rapidly\"><\/span>It&#8217;s growing rapidly<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;re wondering how the fast-growing video app TikTok is gaining so many users, you&#8217;re not alone. According to the latest research from Insider Intelligence (formerly eMarketer), TikTok will become the world&#8217;s third largest social network by 2022, with more than 750 million monthly active users. That&#8217;s a 40% growth over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the survey, 88% of TikTok users report that music is important to the experience, with audio making up 93% of the videos on the platform. Until July 2021, videos on TikTok were limited to 60 seconds in length, but the platform increased that limit to three minutes. Ten minutes of video content was added to the app in 2022. In October of that year, the social media company reported that longer videos have surpassed five billion views worldwide.
