Facebook has changed the way it processes messages from non-friends so that these messages are hidden from your main inbox. While the default setting is for the messages to be visible in your inbox, you can choose to receive them or ignore them. However, you can&#8217;t turn off Message Requests, and you can&#8217;t elect to receive them all.<\/p>\n<p>If you notice that your message requests folder is full, you can adjust the settings to make it more manageable. Click on your profile picture, and then select Preferences. Click Manage message delivery. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the &#8220;How You Get Message Requests&#8221; section. There, you can find messages that you&#8217;ve already ignored and new requests from non-friends.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook website is slow and takes up too much RAM. To access the hidden messages, you can log in to your Facebook account from a desktop computer. Click &#8220;Message Requests&#8221; and you&#8217;ll see a list of messages that you&#8217;ve received. From there, you can move these messages to your main inbox and read them. In the following article, you&#8217;ll learn how to see the message if you&#8217;ve already read it.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, you&#8217;d have to accept a message from someone you&#8217;re not yet friends with in order to view their message. In order to do this, you&#8217;ll need to use the Messenger feature on Facebook. To do this, simply open a conversation and tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Once there, type in the person&#8217;s name. If they have an active Messenger account, you can click on the &#8220;\/show&#8221; button to view the message.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to see a message from someone who isn&#8217;t a friend, you&#8217;ll need to open the message in the &#8220;Message Requests&#8221; folder. This folder contains messages from people who aren&#8217;t your friends, and is usually hidden from your timeline. Once you&#8217;ve read a message from a non-friend, the sender won&#8217;t know that you&#8217;ve read it unless they ask you to do so.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Messages_from_non-friends_are_sent_via_Messenger\"><\/span>Messages from non-friends are sent via Messenger<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Previously, messages from non-friends were sent to your Other Inbox. This didn&#8217;t show up in iOS or Android versions of Messenger, but the new change changes that. Messages from non-friends will now appear in your Messenger inbox as message requests or notifications. If you&#8217;re a Facebook friend, you can still message non-friends via Messenger. If not, you can still send them messages by following their links in your profile.<\/p>\n<p>You can send private messages to anyone on Facebook. You can find these messages on your &#8220;To:&#8221; field, which looks like a tiny pen and notepad. As you type, Facebook will fill in the names of your friends, including those who are not yet on Messenger. After selecting your friend, type the message into the text field at the bottom of the page and click the Send icon. Messages from non-friends are sent via Messenger, so you&#8217;ll need to open Messenger to read them.<\/p>\n<p>To stop strangers from sending you messages, Facebook has updated Messenger&#8217;s privacy tools. It is possible to limit who can send you messages and you can control which messages are sent to you and to whom. You can also control your Messenger privacy by selecting Other on Facebook, Don&#8217;t Receive Requests, and Other.
