It also accuses the company of misleading its users about its privacy practices and data processing policies. The company is also under investigation in Italy due to the BEUC&#8217;s complaint.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok has been facing a backlash from the BEUC due to its unfair terms of service. Users of the platform are allowed to purchase virtual coins with real money and donate them to influencers within the app. However, BEUC says the terms of service allow TikTok to manipulate the exchange rate of the coins, skewing the financial transaction in its favor. This is a clear case of discrimination and should be addressed at the earliest opportunity.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unfair_internal_currency_system\"><\/span>Unfair internal currency system<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are several reasons why TikTok may want to rethink its creator funding model. However, there are some ways in which the company can remedy this situation, ranging from changing the way it rewards creators to introducing new monetization options for their creators.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the US government has expressed concern over TikTok&#8217;s data collection practices, which may have been the primary cause of the company suspending its Hong Kong operations. In the meantime, it is unclear whether the US government&#8217;s National Intelligence regime is to blame for TikTok&#8217;s overt actions. The company was founded in China, but now operates from the US, Europe, and Asia. It also ordered the company to place an excerpt of this provision on the homepage of its website for a minimum of 30 days. It is still unclear whether the amended clauses will be adopted by TikTok. However, the new version of the Terms of Service will be in line with the Consumer Code.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unfair_terms_of_service_for_children\"><\/span>Unfair terms of service for children<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A complaint filed by the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) against TikTok claims the company fails to protect children from hidden advertising and breaches EU rules on consumer protection. The consumer group claims the company&#8217;s terms of service fail to protect children. TikTok has denied the allegations and said its practices comply with local laws and regulations governing advertisements for children. But the company did not address all the concerns raised in its complaint.<\/p>\n<p>The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) is concerned that TikTok is attracting younger users and is violating the five principles for advertising to children. The BEUC said the company hasn&#8217;t provided adequate information about its practices when it comes to data processing and misleading children.
