While these strategies may seem like common sense, they are not foolproof. If you want to avoid being the target of trolls, you need to know what to look out for and how to deal with them. To begin, keep up with the news. In 2013, J.P. Morgan ran a Twitter campaign, #AskJPM, where they gave career advice. The responses were a backlash of responses that were not relevant to the brand. Similarly, keep yourself informed about current events, and be ready to respond to each tweet that your audience makes. While you are interacting with your audience, remember to stay away from telling them what to do. The more you know about the trolls, the easier it will be for you to respond.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re unable to identify the trolls, you can take screenshots of their posts. Twitter requires that their users give their real names, but you can also use pseudonyms. Make sure you check the site&#8217;s privacy policies to learn how to protect yourself. Tweets with high q values are usually trolls, and so the classification process should take this into account. In this paper, we use tweets from both Twitter and Congress to study the effectiveness of different linguistic models in identifying trolls. We then examine the performance of our algorithms, which are designed to identify troll tweets on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the tweet&#8217;s coherence, a successful trolling attack may require altering just a few words. In our analysis, these two word swaps represented 8.3% of the information fed into the model. The model&#8217;s output is then forwarded to a moderator, which may be the Twitter admin or a corresponding third-party. In this case, the output of our model is a flag indicating whether a tweet is trolling.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Responding_to_a_troll\"><\/span>Responding to a troll<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In case you haven&#8217;t noticed, there is a difference between responding to a troll and being polite. A troll is someone who doesn&#8217;t want to be helpful or to discuss their feelings or residual anger with you. So how should you respond to a troll? First of all, you must avoid engaging in a conversation with them. It only serves to increase their number and fuel their aggression.<\/p>\n<p>Trolls are irritating, and if you choose to respond to them, they might become more threatening. While it&#8217;s tempting to ignore them, you should never allow them to escalate their behavior. According to a study from Cornell and Stanford universities, taking extreme action against even the smallest infractions will only increase the chances of future bad behavior. You don&#8217;t want to risk hurting your reputation by ignoring trolls who might be a nuisance.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Avoiding_troll_harassment\"><\/span>Avoiding troll harassment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To avoid troll harassment on Twitter, you must first know how they work. The likes of Adele, Leslie Jones, and Lena Dunham have all been forced to quit Twitter as a result of this type of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>First, you must know that trolls are essentially people who seek attention. Responding to them directly can escalate the behavior. A study from Stanford and Cornell University found that extreme reactions to small infractions can actually worsen the problem and increase future bad behavior. Therefore, avoid engaging in abusive behavior on Twitter if you want to avoid being the target of troll harassment.
