In an attempt to protect his company&#8217;s reputation, Musk agreed to consult with Twitter before making public statements and refrain from disloyal tweets. The company&#8217;s board, however, may still prefer the deal to go through despite Musk&#8217;s concerns. That would mean a potential lawsuit from the current Twitter shareholders and the potential for another breakup.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s board of directors agreed to the takeover bid on 14 April. Musk also confirmed the funding package for the deal, including $21 billion in his own money. With a stake in Twitter worth $21 billion, Musk stood to gain control of the social network&#8217;s 200 million users. The deal also came with the promise of enacting several reforms, including banning automated and fake accounts and shifting away from its advertising-based revenue model.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Twitters_process_for_identifying_spam_bots\"><\/span>Twitter&#8217;s process for identifying spam bots<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the past few months, Twitter has introduced a new feature called &#8220;good bot&#8221; labels. In December, for example, 1.2 million accounts were suspended, which was nearly 50 percent higher than the average for that month. Another spike occurred in mid-May, when over 13 million accounts were suspended within one week.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said he&#8217;s &#8220;suspending our $44 billion deal&#8221; with Twitter because of the problem of spam bots on the site. Twitter has also launched a new label for good bots, but it doesn&#8217;t allow spam bots. But it&#8217;s still possible for a spam bot to make your account look legitimate by being flagged and suspended.
