Facebook relies on content moderators to remove objectionable material, but the constant exposure to obscene and violent content can cause psychological trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s policy of prioritizing efficiency over accuracy may explain why some videos containing hate speech remain on the platform. While Facebook claims that it acted in a timely manner, it is not clear if this policy has had any lasting impact. While the company made statements about fake news and hate speech, the campaign had little impact on content moderation.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the settlement, Class Members may also elect how they want to be paid. There is an option for Claimants to opt for electronic payment or check. Class members may choose any of the available payment methods, including PayPal or Venmo. If they choose to accept the settlement, they will release their claims and receive the funds via check or electronic payment. During the settlement process, Facebook will provide all Class Members with information on how to comply with its terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed intervenors have raised allegations of an illicit agreement between Facebook and Blockbuster. Although Blockbuster is not named as a defendant in the settlement, the proposed intervenors have filed a new lawsuit against Facebook and plan to consolidate the two cases. Moreover, Facebook is required to cease its Beacon program within 60 days of the settlement agreement. But the proposed intervenors are still pursuing their lawsuit in the hope that this settlement will prevail.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed intervenors have failed to introduce any evidence of impropriety, but they may raise an objection to the final approval of the settlement agreement if they believe that indemnification would create a public policy issue. However, if the proposed intervenors do file an objection to the settlement agreement, the Court will grant their request. This lawsuit has a potential class size of 6.9 million, though only 22 percent of them have filed claims. In the meantime, the lawsuit continues to resolve whether non-Facebook users from Illinois can get compensation. The software company employee said the money goes a long way in making up for the conduct of Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed over the company&#8217;s misuse of users&#8217; biometric information. Specifically, Illinois residents were harmed by Facebook&#8217;s collection of biometric data without their consent.
