However, they aren&#8217;t all that profitable.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FriendFeed\"><\/span>FriendFeed<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been following the news, you&#8217;ve probably heard by now that Facebook owns FriendFeed. This is a big deal, but it doesn&#8217;t mean FriendFeed is being discontinued. The FriendFeed API will continue to function as normal, and the service will remain separate from Facebook. As Facebook uses the FriendFeed API, it will likely improve its features. Until then, FriendFeed is a separate service.<\/p>\n<p>One of the biggest concerns many users have with the acquisition is that the FriendFeed team is unlikely to be happy with the Facebook culture. Many Founders and Engineers at Google were encouraged to work on side projects, such as FriendFeed. This culture is very different at Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg wears flip-flops and does not appear to be an easy-going guy. But this could be just what the FriendFeed team needs.<\/p>\n<p>The founders of FriendFeed include former Google employees Jim Norris, Sanjeev Singh and Bret Taylor. Originally, the service was intended to allow users to keep track of their friends on multiple social networks. The site never reached the scale that Twitter has. Despite this, the team did build a technology called the Simple Update Protocol, which helps reduce the load on social networks. While the company is not a rival of Twitter, this deal could have a major impact on the growth of Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The deal also includes an exit strategy for existing Founders. While the Facebook acquisition of FriendFeed does not affect the company&#8217;s operations, it could make Facebook a stronger player in the &#8220;real time&#8221; web. The deal is estimated to be worth up to $50 million. The staff of Friendfeed will transfer to Facebook, while the company determines the long-term strategy. In addition to expanding its network and increasing its profits, Facebook will also be able to expand its social media platform to even more remote locations.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook has also acquired two tech companies. The first, Ascenta, is a solar-powered drone maker with a mission to bring internet connectivity to remote areas. Facebook purchased the company&#8217;s five-person engineering team in 2014. The second company, Little Eye Labs, is a developer of AI software that analyses Android apps. Facebook claims that this software can improve productivity. However, the company has not updated its website or social media accounts since the acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook is investing more than a billion dollars in a number of companies to help them spread their internet connection across the globe. Its most recent acquisition, LiveRail, cost between $400 million and $500 million. Facebook&#8217;s goal with this deal was to evolve the video advertising industry. The company slowly diluted LiveRail Central and other projects. Overall, Facebook has invested $23,360,700,000 in various companies, a sum that exceeds the GDP of the Maldives and Zimbabwe combined.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Ascenta, Facebook also acquired a messaging platform called Beluga. Facebook acquired this company in hopes of gaining an advantage over its competitors. Atlas Solutions is another of the companies Facebook owns. It is a cloud-based service that combines email, calendars, and other features into one seamless system. Facebook hopes to integrate Redkix into Workplace. Additionally, Facebook also purchased the communication tool Parse in July 2018.
