The merger will value the company at $4.3 billion. It will use the money to expand the social networking site. Baron Capital Group, T. Rowe Price Associates, and Cathie Wood&#8217;s Ark Invest invested $270 million in Nextdoor last year.<\/p>\n<p>The IPO was an important step in Nextdoor&#8217;s growth strategy. As the social media company has continued to grow and add features, the IPO has become an increasingly important step in the company&#8217;s development. The SPAC merger is another sign of Nextdoor&#8217;s strength as a public company. After the merger with Khosla Ventures, the company has raised $674 million in total.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_is_a_social_network\"><\/span>It is a social network<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While largely aimed at people who live in the same neighborhood as you, Nextdoor is far from that, allowing you to connect with neighbors and build real-world connections. While the site was originally created as a forum for neighbors, the app has expanded beyond this to include countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Denmark, Canada, and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Nextdoor&#8217;s feature set includes the ability to create profiles that include a brief description of the user, their work and hobbies, and their family. Additionally, they allow you to manage listings for sale and free for use. Users also have access to a notifications tab, which allows them to be notified of updates within their communities. Users can customize their notifications, and can even opt-out of certain features altogether.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It_has_a_marketplace\"><\/span>It has a marketplace<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While Facebook has been attempting to crack the local commerce market for years, its efforts have been largely unsuccessful. It first tried out a Marketplace for classified listings in 2007, but the service never gained much traction. In 2009, it transferred the Marketplace to the online classifieds site Oodle, which was shut down in 2014. Last year, Facebook built a special &#8220;For Sale&#8221; post option in Groups. These groups account for almost a quarter of Facebook&#8217;s total active users. Eventually, Facebook tested a &#8220;Local Market&#8221; feature in October 2015, and today it is officially available.<\/p>\n<p>The Marketplace was originally designed for people with items to sell, such as e-commerce businesses, handmade artists, and other entrepreneurs. Today, it is also used for real estate sales. The Marketplace is similar to eBay and Amazon marketplaces, but it does not charge its users to list items. Unlike eBay, Facebook&#8217;s Marketplace does not require listing fees. The Nextdoor training, developed with consulting firm The New Quo, will focus on inclusive moderation strategies. The training will include explicit lessons on implicit bias. The company has also expanded its anti-racism hub with resources on white privilege and implicit racism. Nextdoor has struggled with these issues despite its AI-enhanced community moderation, which is meant to discourage users from posting racist or offensive content.
