With the new name and premium content, YouTube is no longer competing with Netflix or Hulu, but rather focusing on original content and access to celebrity content.<\/p>\n<p>For $10 per month, YouTube Red provides ad-free access to original content. But now, YouTube has decided to overhaul its service to make way for its new music streaming service. It is working on developing more original content from around the world. And the service is coming to more countries this year, including Canada and Austria. Hopefully, it will expand into even more countries in 2019.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_a_paid_subscription_service\"><\/span>It&#8217;s a paid subscription service<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>YouTube has announced a new paid subscription service called YouTube Red, which will let users watch original programming for $10 per month. YouTube is one of the most popular websites, earning billions of dollars a year in advertising revenue. YouTube executives announced the new service at an investor conference in San Francisco on Tuesday. YouTube Red will also cover Google Play Music Services. Premium subscribers can download videos, which are exclusive to YouTube Red. YouTube Red is tied to the new YouTube Music App, which focuses on music on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Though the service will feature many YouTube originals, it will also offer programming from big media companies. These media companies already have ad-supported YouTube accounts, and they will receive 55 percent of the revenue from the subscription service. Some media executives said they were pressed into participating in YouTube Red because they thought that the new service would increase their revenue stream. YouTube had implied that content would be unavailable unless viewers paid for a subscription.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_cheaper_than_Spotify\"><\/span>It&#8217;s cheaper than Spotify<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>You can try both services to find out what you prefer. If you&#8217;re a music fanatic, Spotify is clearly better. It&#8217;s easy to get hooked on their extensive library and playlist algorithm. If you&#8217;re not a music fanatic, YouTube Music will probably win you over. Likewise, if you prefer podcasts and videos, YouTube Music is better than Spotify. Spotify is more affordable than YouTube Red, but if you&#8217;re looking for an all-in-one service, YouTube Music is still the best choice.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to music discovery, the former is definitely better. The Discover Weekly playlist features songs from artists you&#8217;re listening to. This playlist contains 30 tracks from different artists. Additionally, Spotify also creates six daily mixes for its subscribers. The downside? Spotify doesn&#8217;t have as much diversity as YouTube, but you&#8217;ll still be able to enjoy new music every day. It&#8217;s also cheaper than Spotify&#8217;s competitor, which charges $13 a month.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_ad-supported\"><\/span>It&#8217;s ad-supported<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>YouTube&#8217;s new subscription service is aimed at addressing these concerns. The company&#8217;s previous service, YouTube Music, was launched to appease the music labels, who were unhappy with the lack of revenue generated by the free service. While ad-supported, the new service is not limited to music. YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki referred to YouTube Red as &#8220;a music service&#8221; at a recent conference.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube is one of the world&#8217;s largest video platforms with 1.9 billion monthly users. The service offers original content, ad-free versions of the site&#8217;s videos, music streaming, and more. YouTube Premium costs $12 per month, but the service offers ad-free access to ad-supported versions of its videos and original programming. This service will eventually replace Google Play Music. The company expects to generate billions of dollars in revenue a year from the subscription service.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube Red isn&#8217;t a direct competitor of Netflix. It&#8217;s unlikely to replace YouTube&#8217;s existing ad-supported offering. The Christian Science Monitor labeled the move a pivot, but the term implies that YouTube plans to break free from the ad model. In such a case, it would likely lose millions of users.
