If you happen to use copyrighted content, you are responsible for it and may face a copyright strike if you don’t pay attention to the terms and conditions of YouTube. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid a copyright strike and find creative, copyright-free music for your videos.

Transform the copyrighted material in your video

In YouTube videos, it is possible to transform copyrighted material by adding custom music, voiceovers, or other elements. The most popular videos are often based on stories that were once owned by other people. Other popular videos may incorporate a fictionalized version of an existing story or an excerpt of a work taken out of circulation. It is important to note that copyright protection is not applicable to videos containing content that is not created by the creator.

Most YouTube content is commercial in nature. The transformative nature of the creations on the channel enables you to introduce new content, and to give the work a different character or purpose. It is protected under fair use laws. By adding a mocking element to the material, you can turn it into a new work. This is the safest bet. However, make sure you follow copyright laws for commercial use.

Avoid a copyright strike

If you have copied a piece of content on YouTube, you may be asked to attend Copyright School to learn how to avoid a copyright strike. If you’re not sure where to begin, you can also learn about YouTube’s copyright process by watching YouTube’s YouTube Creators channel. If you receive a strike, you’ll be required to attend Copyright School and comply with the rules.

To avoid a copyright strike, first, make sure that you are using original content. If you use video content that involves people’s secrets, you run the risk of getting sued for infringement. YouTube strongly opposes videos featuring characters that promote domestic violence, so advertisers will likely avoid your videos and you may find yourself demonetizing your channels. You can also protect yourself from a copyright strike by using an FBI content warning and a logo.

Secondly, be aware of the process for appealing a copyright strike. If a video is being deleted because it violates a copyright, you can file an appeal with YouTube. The copyright holder can either decide not to sue you can work out an agreement with them directly. If you’re not able to work out a deal directly, you can hire an attorney to file an appeal on your behalf.

Find creative copyright-free music

You can find free, copyright-free music on YouTube by searching for Creative Commons and public domain works. If you want to use a piece of music for your video, you must obtain permission from the author or artist and then attribute it. To find free, creative copyright-free music on YouTube, check out the “Create” section of YouTube. There you will find hundreds of free clips ranging from classical music to hip hop. In addition to this, the Audio Library on YouTube has a plethora of sound effects and royalty-free music.

Free Music Archive is another great resource for finding creative copyright-free music for your YouTube video. You can also browse the music by genre, artist, and more. However, the interface is a little bit more confusing than the others. The licenses for music on Free Music Archive vary, and some of them don’t allow use in videos on YouTube. Make sure to read the YouTube’s policies before downloading the music.

If you are looking for full-length, royalty-free music, you may want to check out Digccmixter. The site has thousands of tracks licensed under Creative Commons. This kind of music is perfect for your YouTube video and other multimedia projects. It’s even free to remix, but you should give proper credit to the artist or creator. If you are unsure about copyright-free music, you can try Incompetech.

How to Avoid a Copyright Strike on YouTube When using content from other people’s videos, make sure to always attribute them to the original creator.
