The study also found that LGBT youth were more likely to experience online harassment and bullying than their heterosexual peers. Nearly half of these teens had witnessed someone else being cyberbullied on social media, and 12% were victims of it.<\/p>\n<p>While bullying is increasingly prevalent on social media sites, it is hard to identify which posts are particularly threatening. While researchers have argued that some of these posts may be harmless, no two studies agree on the precise definition of cyberbullying. That makes tackling the problem all the more complicated. Nevertheless, there are several ways to detect bullying on Instagram. First, it&#8217;s important to understand what constitutes a bullying post. The lack of them has fueled a firestorm of criticism, and a new video by Meta&#8217;s executive team offers a solution. Although Instagram&#8217;s new safety measures are much needed, they&#8217;re easy to work around. For instance, Instagram&#8217;s new age verification feature requires a user to be 13 years old &#8211; something underage kids easily circumvent by entering a false birth date. Even though these safety measures do help prevent unwanted contact with strangers, kids can simply turn off these controls again when they&#8217;re left alone.<\/p>\n<p>Instagram isn&#8217;t alone in letting parents monitor their kids&#8217; online activities. Facebook and Twitter have their own systems for controlling their usage of the social network. Facebook and Twitter both have parental control tools, but the lack of Instagram&#8217;s controls is a major flaw. Regardless of your kid&#8217;s age or the safety of your child, you should always supervise their online activity.
