This entrepreneurial spirit led him to join Facebook, where he eventually became the company&#8217;s CEO.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook CEO recently defended his company&#8217;s ownership of Instagram in a call with analysts after reporting third-quarter earnings. Facebook purchased Instagram for $1 billion in 2012, and now claims to have over 1 billion monthly active users. But the company has faced increased regulatory scrutiny over the years, leading some to question whether Mark Zuckerberg really owns Instagram. Systrom, however, was surprised when Zuckerberg offered to buy the app for $1 billion, offering only $300 million in cash and the rest in Facebook stock. It was a shocking move, given the early growth of the company. In fact, the deal was announced just hours before Facebook&#8217;s IPO, and Systrom declined to accept the deal.<\/p>\n<p>The two met as Stanford students. They developed their first Instagram filter. The two changed the name from SnapChat to Instagram in October 2010. The new name came from the words &#8220;instant&#8221; and &#8220;telegram.&#8221; The app was downloaded by 25,000 people in its first 24 hours and crashed the servers. Within a month, the app had more than 1 million users, and by nine months it had more than seven million. Instagram was then acquired by Mark Zuckerberg for $1 billion, in cash or shares, in the company&#8217;s first IPO.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mark_Zuckerbergs_involvement_in_NFTs\"><\/span>Mark Zuckerberg&#8217;s involvement in NFTs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly proposed the implementation of NFTs on his platform, if they ever gain enough momentum. It would be interesting to see how NFTs would affect the metaverse, an interconnected digital environment with dystopian roots. Nevertheless, Zuckerberg has yet to explain exactly what he meant by this. One possible use of NFTs in the metaverse is to buy avatar clothing. However, these plans haven&#8217;t been a complete success so far.<\/p>\n<p>Instagram is another example of an app that may incorporate NFTs. The popular photo sharing service has over a billion monthly active users. According to Zuckerberg, the social media platform is exploring NFTs, but hasn&#8217;t made any announcements on when they will be implemented. However, in December, Adam Mosseri, Instagram&#8217;s Head of Product, confirmed that the company was considering introducing NFTs to Instagram. The tech giant has also expressed interest in integrating NFTs with Web3 and may eventually offer them to users.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Systroms_impact_on_Instagram\"><\/span>Systrom&#8217;s impact on Instagram<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Founder Kevin Systrom&#8217;s impact on Instagram is not only reflected in the number of users, but also in the company&#8217;s culture and decisions.
