She had sworn she would never participate in a video as risky as the Blackout Challenge. While doctors at the hospital were unable to find the cause of her death, the family learned that TikTok had a program that feeds children the Blackout Challenge. It is unclear if TikTok knew about Arriani&#8217;s death, or if they were deliberately feeding the videos to her.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Blackout_Challenge_encourages_users_to_choke_themselves\"><\/span>&#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; encourages users to choke themselves<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Arriani Jaileen Arroyo, nine, died after participating in the &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; on the social media app TikTok. Other children have died after trying the challenge. The internet has been filled with incredibly dangerous challenges for years. Some have even involved consuming large amounts of Benadryl or getting out of a car to dance. This video has become particularly disturbing due to its potential to cause severe injury.<\/p>\n<p>According to a CDC study, 82 children have died after participating in the challenge. This is due to the fact that strangulation deprives the brain of oxygen. Many parents of children have filed lawsuits against the social media company for encouraging children to take the challenge. In response to the lawsuit, the social media giant has blocked the hashtag &#8216;#BlackoutChallenge&#8217; on its website.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; has become extremely popular, but it has a dark history. It predates TikTok. CDC records show that children have died of the game as far back as 1995. A recent lawsuit filed against the company claims that the app&#8217;s algorithm deliberately promoted the choking game. As of August 2015, there were at least four other reports of children who have died after taking the challenge.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Deaths_from_Blackout_Challenge\"><\/span>Deaths from &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; has been linked to the deaths of two children. A 10-year-old girl died in Italy in January of next year after taking the challenge. Another 12-year-old boy is being kept alive by life support after an alleged attempt. TikTok has been linked to other tragic challenges including the milk crate challenge, which hospitalized a group of people last year. Despite the dangers, the &#8220;Blackout Challenge&#8221; has gained worldwide attention.<\/p>\n<p>Several lawsuits have been filed against TikTok, which has helped spread the &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; online. The videos encourage users to choke themselves, often with belts or purse strings. Some of these videos have been posted as &#8220;viral&#8221; on the social network. The parents of the young girls have now sued TikTok, alleging that their children have died after being exposed to the video.<\/p>\n<p>The parents of two girls who died in 2021 have filed a lawsuit against the company, saying that it failed to stop the dangerous challenge. The video of the challenge remains online after one report. While the dividing line between death and passing out is fine, many children have died from this challenge. She quickly became addicted to watching TikTok videos. She told her mother about the blackout challenge, which was so popular that it had even resulted in an Italian girl&#8217;s death. At that point, her mother told her not to try it. However, the blackout challenge is now one of the most popular viral video games on the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Lalani Erika Renee Walton, an eight-year-old from Temple, Texas, was a child who loved makeup and dressing up as a princess. Sadly, she died on 15 July 2021 after attempting the &#8216;Blackout Challenge&#8217; on the app. After receiving her phone for her eighth birthday, Lalani began posting videos of herself singing and dancing, and she dreamed of becoming famous on TikTok.<\/p>\n<p>The blackout challenge has claimed the lives of at least five children. The parents of two girls who died as a result of the blackout challenge are suing TikTok for the deaths of their daughters, as well as four other children. TikTok is responsible for providing the blackout challenge videos to young users. Thankfully, they are making efforts to warn parents and children about this dangerous challenge.
