The reason is not clear, but it might have something to do with Cyberbullying, Harassment, Sexually explicit content, and border clashes. ByteDance, the company that owns the site, is fighting this ban. They’ve even gone so far as to approach the Supreme Court. The company argues that the ban curtails free speech, and that TikTok already regulates pornographic comments. Pornographic content is a problem in social media, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and more.

Cyberbullying

Tamil Nadu state is the latest to ban TikTok. The controversial app is a platform for 15-second videos that may be sexually explicit or contain other inappropriate content. The Tamil Nadu government backed the petition to ban the app. It has been a hot topic among Indian lawmakers and many schools, and is being considered for ban in other states. This ban comes in light of reports that TikTok can promote cyberbullying and is a way for children to express themselves.

While the ban in India is a setback, it is a microcosm of a larger problem. Social media has a darker side, and this is becoming a big issue in many countries. The Cambridge Analytica scandal and the Arab Spring were both powered by Twitter and Facebook, respectively. India’s ban on TikTok demonstrates that the platform can lead to more inflammatory content than it has controlled to date. While TikTok is regulated in the Indian case, pornographic content is an epidemic on social networks in general. WhatsApp and Instagram also have pornographic content.

Harassment

A video posted on TikTok shows what many women face online and on social media every day. With the scourge of harassment that has gripped the world, many women have finally spoken out and started protesting the problem. American women have taken to the platform, posting disturbing messages and videos with men. The hashtag #everypieceofme has emerged, along with a popular song by Billi Eilish called “Bored.”

The young woman Fena Reti posted on TikTok last week said she changed to sweatpants in order to avoid further harassment by a coworker. Her coworker had commented on her appearance and her clothing, so she showed the camera her gray sweatpants. “Then, I realized that I was being harassed,” Reti wrote. “She’s making me feel bad and embarrassed.” She posted a video to prove her point.

Sexually explicit content

A recent ban on TikTok in India is only a first step. This social media platform is widely used by teens to post inappropriate and pornographic videos. The platform has also been banned in countries like Indonesia and Bangladesh. There is a growing public concern over the obscene content on TikTok and its widespread usage. Social media has become a necessary part of our lives, but a ban on TikTok won’t solve the real problem.

The ban comes after a recent report showed that sexually explicit content on TikTok is spreading quickly across the world. Recently, a video of a gangrape in Pollachi was posted on WhatsApp and sold for as low as Rs 10 in Uttar Pradesh. Other social media platforms also carry sexually explicit videos. In fact, in one case, a rape victim’s video was sold for as low as Rs 10 in Uttar Pradesh, where TikTok has a particularly high user base.

Border clashes

The recent ban on the game of tiktok has been blamed on escalating conflict between India and China. Both sides accused each other of incursions, and the two countries have been building military bases in the area. Since partition, China and India have had strained relations and clashes are common. The two countries share a 2,100-mile border, and much of it is undefined and disputed.

The Indian government has banned dozens of Chinese-owned applications, including WeChat and Weibo. The ban began the day after the announcement. Users of TikTok no longer see the app in Indian app stores, and instead see an error message. This is especially frustrating for users who are addicted to the app. They can no longer upload videos. Many users reported the error message began appearing the day after the ban was announced.

Why is TikTok Banned in India?
