Users of the app spend over four hours every single day watching these short videos, which range from lip-synching to dance routines. The site is also popular among lower-income households, with 18% of its users claiming to be from lower-income households. Although statistics do not include younger users, it is likely that many of these households are student flats or student houses.<\/p>\n<p>As of January 2022, TikTok has become the most popular social media app in the world. According to its website, users watch 167 million hours of videos each minute. TikTok boasts over 155 million active users in a single day and has been a major sponsor of the Euro 2020 soccer championship. Moreover, there are over 100 million Instagram posts with the hashtag #tiktok.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"60_million_users\"><\/span>60 million users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to a study by Statista, more than 60 million people use the video-sharing app, and a significant percentage are female. While the app&#8217;s original user base was largely male, the demographic profile has shifted to a more diverse group. For example, nearly half of all TikTok users are female, and more than half of them are young adults. This might reflect the growing economic diversity of the US population. At the same time, females account for a higher percentage of TikTok users, whose numbers are growing every month.<\/p>\n<p>With these increasing numbers, TikTok has also been growing in popularity. In November, it was the second most popular app in the U.S., trailing only Disney+. The platform&#8217;s revenue increased more than 300% compared to the same period last year. In mainland China, TikTok is known as Douyin, and it boasts 400 million daily active users. Its video sharing app also pays influencers $500 to join.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"55_billion_installs_worldwide\"><\/span>5.5 billion installs worldwide<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>China&#8217;s TikTok and India&#8217;s Douyin have reached record-breaking download numbers, racking up more than 5.5 billion installs worldwide between them. While TikTok accounts for almost a third of the total worldwide installs, the latter has over 196.6 million users in China, making up more than nine percent of the total. With the number of downloads in China increasing at such a rapid rate, it&#8217;s no wonder that ByteDance and TikTok are looking to expand the creator ecosystem on their own.<\/p>\n<p>The TikTok app is becoming increasingly popular, with 315 million downloads in the first quarter of 2020 alone, a massive increase of 58 percent over the previous quarter. This growth is likely due to the coronavirus pandemic, which forced many consumers to stay glued to their mobile phones. TikTok was not only a new way to stay connected, but also a source of entertainment.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reach_in_Southeastern_Asia\"><\/span>Reach in Southeastern Asia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Southeastern Asia includes eleven countries that span from eastern India to China. It is divided into two parts: the mainland and the island regions. The mainland is part of the Asian continent and contains a significant Muslim population, most notably in southern Thailand and western Burma. Muslim communities also exist on the Indonesian island of Bali. Despite the widespread religious differences, most Southeast Asians are Christian, and other local religions are common.<\/p>\n<p>The region is separated from Northwest India by long rivers and vast lowland plains that are mostly forested. The lowlands were home to rice-growing ethnic groups that developed a thriving settled culture. In contrast, the highlands were home to tribal groups that possessed distinctive clothing and displayed a sense of identity through unique clothing. Although Southeast Asia is not as severely affected by hurricanes and typhoons, the region is vulnerable to earthquake activity.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Engagement_rate_in_Arabic_countries\"><\/span>Engagement rate in Arabic countries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In early 2021, TikTok&#8217;s popularity in the GCC region exploded. In Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the U.A.E., and Qatar, it has the highest overall reach, ranking among the most downloaded regional apps. In contrast, the U.S. has a relatively low engagement rate of 46.5%, probably because it only publishes data on audiences 18 and up. Nevertheless, this data is a good indication of the potential of TikTok to reach audiences outside the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Socialinsider conducted a study of engagement rates on popular platforms. It found that TikTok has a higher engagement rate than the next most popular social media platform, Instagram. In fact, the gap is widening between the two, with an average engagement rate of 5.96% in 2021, compared to 0.13% on Facebook, 0.23% on Twitter, and 0.05% on Instagram.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Usage_in_Southeastern_Asia\"><\/span>Usage in Southeastern Asia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As the fastest-growing community in Southeast Asia, TikTok is expanding its services beyond music and dance. The number of pieces of education content on TikTok in the region increased by 148% by 2021, while travel content grew by 545%. Content on financial services and games grew by 6,780 times. In 2018, the Indonesian government briefly banned TikTok due to pornographic content. Bans in other Southeast Asian countries have been proposed in Thailand and Vietnam, though the reasons are not the same.<\/p>\n<p>While TikTok&#8217;s popularity has increased worldwide, it has also increased in Singapore. The app is now ranked among the top 10 apps in certain countries and is often first in the video app category. Despite its relatively recent existence, video has already risen to the top of digital marketing, and nearly nine out of ten businesses use video in their marketing strategies today.
