If you don&#8217;t follow their best practices, you may find yourself blocked for a short time. You can limit the number of DMs you send each day to 1,000, which is plenty for personal use but may not be enough for business purposes. Spam, single emojis, and links can all be annoying, and it&#8217;s time you took action to stop it. Twitter recently updated its DM filtering system to help users identify and filter out potentially offensive messages. While it&#8217;s still unclear exactly what this new feature does, Twitter is happy to hear from its users that it&#8217;s made their experience more enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, DMs are great for building a personal connection with your audience. They are also a secondary form of public outreach. It&#8217;s perfectly acceptable to make contact in DMs as long as you&#8217;re not spamming, but you should avoid sending promotional messages that are only meant to spam others. The first step is to enable the DM setting for the account in question. Depending on the setting, the account may not allow you to send them messages for spam or troll reasons. If that&#8217;s the case, however, you can always click on &#8220;Disable&#8221; to block the account.<\/p>\n<p>You may have to verify the person&#8217;s phone number if you&#8217;re sending the message to someone who doesn&#8217;t follow you. Twitter limits the number of direct messages sent to a single account per day to 1,000. If you have reached this limit, the app will notify you, and you can send the message again after 24 hours. In some cases, you may also need to confirm their phone number if you haven&#8217;t been able to get hold of their email address.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Replying_to_a_DM\"><\/span>Replying to a DM<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Unlike a direct message, a reply on Twitter is private. It only appears on the user&#8217;s timeline and in Notifications and Mentions. Because of this, anyone visiting a user&#8217;s profile or the tweet details will see the reply. Replies will appear on the timeline of both the poster and responder, rather than just the person who sent it. Here&#8217;s how to do it.<\/p>\n<p>The initial version of the app enabled the user to share a tweet with anyone. The new feature does away with the middle step by sending the DM directly to the author of the tweet. DM icons also work on a regular share button. Once you&#8217;ve shared a tweet within a DM thread, tap the Reply icon to quickly reply to the sender.
