Evan Williams later co-founded the music streaming service Odeo with Noah Glass, who later sold the service to Apple. Eventually, Twitter surpassed Odeo in revenue, but its name is no longer used today. Evan Williams&#8217;s motivation for starting Twitter was to raise money for his other ventures. In addition, Spark Capital became an investor in the company and focused on how the technical capabilities of Twitter could meet consumer demands in the form of applications.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Dorsey conceived of Twttr while working as a software engineer at Odeo. He came up with the idea of a messaging service that allowed users to send and receive messages through SMS text. The name, &#8220;Twttr,&#8221; was inspired by bird sounds. It was eventually changed to Twitter. Jack Dorsey&#8217;s name has changed a few times, including changing its spelling and adding more letters.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Biz_Stone\"><\/span>Biz Stone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When did Twitter start? The company was founded by Christopher Isaac &#8220;Biz&#8221; Stone, an American entrepreneur and former creative director at Xanga. Before founding Twitter, Stone co-founded Jelly with Ben Finkel, a visual search engine. This was one of the first online social networks, and it was a wildly popular way to connect with friends. Today, there are more than two billion monthly active users.<\/p>\n<p>Biz Stone is the co-founder of Twitter, and the founder of the Obvious Corporation. He is a Boston-based entrepreneur and former executive at Google. Since the launch of Twitter, Stone has been criticized for his management style, but he is credited for helping to mold the company&#8217;s culture. Biz Stone has been known to recruit top talent from other companies. Twitter has also faced criticism from its users, and has struggled to gain momentum.
