He co-founded the social networking website Facebook. He is currently the chief executive officer, chairman, and controlling shareholder of Meta Platforms. He is also an active member of many philanthropic organizations, including the non-profit organization StartUp Genome Project. This biography will discuss Zuckerberg&#8217;s background, and how he came to lead Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>Although Zuckerberg started the social networking site out of his dorm room, he had no intention of creating a successful business. He says that he was simply trying to solve a problem that he saw around him. Today, Facebook has a market cap of $500 billion, and its user base has surpassed two billion. While Zuckerberg is worth $70 billion, he did not set out to build a successful business.<\/p>\n<p>When he was in high school, Mark Zuckerberg read the Aeneid, recounting the quest of Aeneas to build a city. His classical streak has been evident ever since. He has always enjoyed Greek odysseys, and even quoted the Aeneid while sitting in a conference room with other employees. He even quoted the poem in a product meeting.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jennifer_G_Newstead\"><\/span>Jennifer G. Newstead<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While Newstead may not have a distinguished legal career, her work on the Patriot Act helped the Patriot Act become law. She briefed members of Congress on the Patriot Act, which gave the government unprecedented surveillance powers. Now, she&#8217;s dealing with controversial Facebook policies. Before joining Facebook, Newstead served as a legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State. She was also an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law School.<\/p>\n<p>Before joining Facebook as CEO, she was an associate White House attorney. In 2005, she was promoted to the Office of Management and Budget. She then returned to private practice at Davis Polk &amp; Wardwell. Her experience working for Republicans will prove invaluable as Facebook faces intensifying federal scrutiny. Newstead also served in Republican administrations, which could help smooth the relationship with Republicans. Nonetheless, Newstead&#8217;s political background may help her with the challenges of navigating the politics of Facebook.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Schroepfer\"><\/span>Schroepfer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Despite her high-profile background, Schroepfer has faced multiple criticisms over her tenure at Facebook. She was seen as a personable executive and a strong voice during the company&#8217;s turbulent years. For example, she regularly held talks with Facebook engineers to address their frustrations regarding negative headlines. While Facebook executives have praised her work, critics question her judgment. And while she was a popular figure among her peers, Schroepfer&#8217;s departure is a big risk.<\/p>\n<p>Schroepfer&#8217;s tenure has been marked by the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), which is the technology used to determine which content is presented to users on Facebook. This technology has been controversial, as it promotes content based on a computer algorithm. Schroepfer&#8217;s role as CEO has been closely scrutinized. However, Schroepfer has said that he has been committed to the company&#8217;s mission.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chudnovsky\"><\/span>Chudnovsky<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In August, Mark D&#8217;Arcy announced his resignation as Facebook&#8217;s chief creative officer. Two weeks later, Mike Schroepfer announced he would leave the company, followed by David Marcus. In September, Julien Codorniou announced he was moving into venture capital. On the same day, Chudnovsky announced his resignation. The two had previously worked together at PayPal.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining Facebook, Chudnovsky held positions with PayPal and Meta, where he was the VP of growth. Before joining Facebook, he co-founded WonderHill, Inc., and later served as its chief technology officer. In addition to Facebook, he held positions at Jiff and IronPearl.
